Our mission is to transform the traditional handicraft industry by integrating sustainable practices, such as upcycling plastic waste into beautiful and functional products. At Shilpkaar, we believe in preserving our cultural heritage while fostering economic independence and environmental responsibility. Join us in our journey towards a more equitable and sustainable future.
Our
Story
Project Shilpkaar began with a simple yet powerful vision: to uplift traditional artisans and provide them with sustainable livelihoods. Our journey started in October 2021, inspired by the remarkable skills of Raji Ben, a talented artisan working in challenging conditions. Together, we developed the concept of plarn—a unique fabric made from upcycled plastic and yarn. With the support of dedicated artisans and partners, we created a range of beautiful, eco-friendly products that not only preserve our rich cultural heritage but also address pressing environmental issues. Today, we continue to grow and evolve, driven by our commitment to social impact and sustainability.

Our Journey
Our journey is one of passion, perseverance, and transformation. Since our inception in October 2021, we have focused on empowering women artisans and promoting sustainable practices. Collaborating with artisans like Raji Ben and organizations such as Khamir and Srujna, we developed plarn products that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern sustainability. From our humble beginnings in Bhuj and Mumbai, we expanded our reach through digital platforms, increasing awareness and sales. With every step, we have faced and overcome challenges, building a resilient and inclusive community. Today, Project Shilpkaar stands as a beacon of hope, providing continuous employment to artisans and contributing to a greener planet.

Our Mission
Our mission at Project Shilpkaar is to empower traditional artisans, especially women, by providing them with sustainable employment opportunities that enhance their skills and improve their livelihoods. We are dedicated to preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage through the creation of eco-friendly products made from upcycled materials. By connecting artisans with urban marketplaces and raising awareness about sustainable consumption, we aim to foster economic independence, social equity, and environmental responsibility within our communities.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a world where traditional artisans are celebrated, valued, and economically secure. We envision a thriving ecosystem where sustainable practices are seamlessly integrated into the handicraft industry, transforming waste into beautiful, functional products. By 2027, we aim to upcycle over 6 tonnes of plastic waste, reduce 20 tonnes of CO2 emissions, and generate significant sales revenue, all while ensuring continuous employment and skill development for our artisans. Through our efforts, we aspire to contribute meaningfully to the global movement towards sustainability and social justice, leaving a lasting positive impact on both people and the planet.
